Privacy, in plain English

Draft policy. A lawyer should review this before public launch. Last updated October 2026.

The short version

  • We never sell your data. Not to colleges, not to lenders, not to advertisers.
  • Nothing about your student leaves ScholarSleuth unless you turn on "Paying for College tools" and tap Share, after seeing exactly who would receive it.
  • The parent owns the account. Students are added by the parent.
  • You can export or delete everything, any time.

What we collect

What you type: student first name, grade, GPA, optional test scores, state and county, majors, college choices, the boxes you check, and your interview answers. If you save your list, your email. We do not collect a student's full name, birth date, address, or Social Security number, and we never will.

Sensitive answers

Some interview questions touch heritage, faith, or a medical condition. Those answers are used only to match scholarships. They are never included in anything shared under "Paying for College tools," never used for advertising, and you can skip them.

How we use it

To match scholarships, to send the reminders you asked for, and to improve matching (for example, counting how many families applied to a listing). Aggregate counts never identify a student.

Who else sees it

Our hosting and database providers process data on our behalf. No one receives your student's profile for marketing unless you explicitly opt in and choose them by name. You can revoke that consent any time.

Minors

Most students here are 16 to 18. We follow a children's-privacy posture regardless: no targeted ads, no data sale, explicit opt-in before any sharing, and we keep only what matching needs.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account until you delete it. Deleting removes the student profile, tracker, notes, and consents. We keep anonymous application counts per scholarship, which cannot be traced back to you.
